2010-2013
In 2009 I received some letters written by my sister. She wrote them over many years, and never sent them, hiding or simply abandoning these messages throughout her home. Perhaps because my sister had recently passed away these letters took me back into my childhood. Descending layer by layer into the mysteries of the past--- a past that lay hidden in the cryptic language of my sister’s writing and in the images of early drawings I had done in the 1980’s. Back then those early drawings spilled out of me like a direct conduit to the unconscious contents of my psyche. I made these drawings but seldom really looked at them or understood them at the time. Collaging bits of these past drawings into new forms I have passed again through this old territory with fresh eyes, metabolizing it, reconstituting it in the hope of bringing its gifts to a richer, fuller, present.
